If you're about to put a lift on a Silverado and there's a date on the calendar—a trail trip, a scheduled inspection, a customer pickup—this checklist is for you. It is not the full factory service manual. It is the six checks I run before turning a single bolt.

In my day-to-day role coordinating installs for an off-road accessory shop, I'm usually the one taking the call after a plan has already gone sideways. When I first started, I assumed the lift itself was the risky part. It isn't. The risk is everything around it: wrong part numbers, missing sockets, a winch cable that only rubs after everything is tight, and that first wash that does more harm than good. When you torque control arm bolts, sway bar links, and shock mount bushings with the wheels hanging, the bushings end up twisted when the truck settles at ride height. That causes clunks and short bushing life.

Use a jack to raise the lower control arm until the truck's weight is on it, then do the final torque. If the kit's included instructions say to do it differently, follow the instructions. Most people miss the sway bar links. They tighten those in the air, then call a week later about a popping noise that only happens when pulling into a driveway.

Before calling the lift done, visually check every brake hose, ABS wire, and vent line. Cycle the steering lock to lock and confirm nothing stretches or rubs. This is the boring part of the job, but it's also the part that catches problems before a road test does.
